FLOWERS

I was just listening to the Mel Robbins podcast about flowers on my ride to work. She talks about how flowers just make us happy. How as living, evolving things with bright colors, they bring us joy. And this resonated in a huge way for me. Now, Mel was talking about a bouquet or gift of flowers.

But for me, on my commute along the shore of Lake Como between Lecco and Bellagio each day, I get to see a wide variety of flowers that blossom throughout the season. And, in doing the ride so often, I’ve found great joy in the evolution and arrival of flowers throughout. I can say, “oh the roses are just arriving”, “It’s hydrangea season”, “And the Lillie’s are finally popping.” On each ride I see new color in bushes, and the way that they evolve from the buds to the disintegrating pedals. It is beautiful and refreshing and fills me with wonder in the very same way that Mel describes the bouquet she received as a gift.

Biking is a blessing. It puts me out in nature, it gets me moving at a pace that allows me to be a spectator of the world, of nature. And with my power of observation, i see so much. The flowers are popping. Make sure to notice them. It’s the final days for those huge magnolia flowers. They weren’t as strong and vibrant as years past - the wet wet summer has its costs. But who knows what will be next? I will be watching.
